Burnsville

Located in Yancey County, Burnsville is surrounded by the Blue Ridge area of the Appalachian Highlands. The Black Mountain Range crosses the south end of the county and is intersected by the Blue Ridge Range and the Unaka Range. Yancey County has the highest average elevation of any county in North Carolina. Burnsville is located at 2,815 feet. Whether you live here or choose to visit there is an abundance of outdoor activities. There are more than a 100 miles of hiking trails as well as horseback riding and fishing. Mount Mitchell, located near Burnsville, has the highest peak east of the Mississippi with an elevation of 6,684 feet.
