Brevard is home to Brevard College, a four-year liberal arts institution, considered by many to be one of the best in the state, with nationally recognized programs in music and environmental studies. The city is nicknamed “The Land of Waterfalls” due to the many waterfalls, including Looking Glass Falls, Connestee Falls and Sliding Rock. It is home to some of the best trout streams in the United States, as well as Pisgah national forest with its many miles of biking and hiking trails. Brevard based Mountain Adventure Guides offers year round programs that include white-water rafting, rock climbing and back packing. The city also celebrates many genres of music with the annual Brevard Music Festival, held at the Brevard Music Center, which features over 80 concerts from mid-June to early August.
