2012 Mountain Sports Festival – Asheville, North Carolina
Asheville, North Carolina’s 2012 Mountain Sports Festival combines mountains, music and lots of sports clinics, demos, races and competitions for both the novice and the pro. The three days of festivities take place Memorial Day weekend, May 25 through May 27. All weekend long you can push yourself to your limits in the triathlon, paddling, running, cycling, disc golf, climbing, skateboarding and ultimate events, like ultimate Frisbee, just to name a few. Kids can test their mettle in track and field, soccer and basketball skills in the free Iron Kids Challenge. There’s family fun nights, ninja school, mini-golf, scavenger hunts, relay races and a bike, ride duathlon for the kids, and adults will love the complimentary morning yoga and the demos and clinics that meet at Festival Village.
Music has always been a big part of the mountains. Every afternoon and evening there’s free concerts with headliners like the Josh Phillips Folk Festival and George Porter, Jr. & Running Pardners. Over the years, nearly 10,000 individuals have taken part in the festivities which include a “rise-n-shine” 5K and lots of beer to celebrate Asheville Beer Week. You’re guaranteed to be famished after all the sports and dancing, but there are plenty of local vendors on hand to satisfy every taste bud. Come enjoy yourself over Memorial weekend at the 2012 Mountain Sports Festival, one of the most recognized mountain, multi-sport festivals in the Southeast.
