Asheville, NC Named Number One Small City for Arts

Asheville’s unique culture and beautiful scenery serve as inspiration to local artists and for a second year, American Style Magazine has named Asheville, NC as the Number One Small City for Art.

The Asheville Art Museum has a permanent collection of 20th and 21st century American art as well as works of significance to Western North Carolina’s cultural heritage with special exhibitions featuring renowned regional and national artists.  Located along the French Broad River you can explore the River Arts District, where renovated warehouses serve as artist studios, and view the artist’s work in progress.  The Folk Art Center showcases traditional and contemporary crafts of the Southern  Appalachians with exhibits and demonstrations throughout the year. The Craft Heritage Trails of Western North Carolina winds its way through the Asheville area as well - following the back roads and scenic byways to locate some of the most beautiful handmade objects in the Blue Ridge Mountains that can be found in both the larger galleries or the small shacks deep in the woods.

With hundreds of galleries and working art studios, Asheville is one of the top Arts destinations in the southeast.
