Cliffs Developer pledges progress for High Carolina | Asheville News

Cliffs CommunitiesASHEVILLE — With an investment that’s already reached $150 million, the developer of The Cliffs at High Carolina, which features a golf course designed by Tiger Woods, said he is fully committed to completing the project.

With the news on Monday that Woods’ first project as a designer — an 18-hole course in Dubai that was part of a $1 billion development — has been suspended, Cliffs founder Jim Anthony said that despite slow real estate sales, construction will resume in mid-April on the 3,000-acre project in eastern Buncombe County.

“We’ve invested $150 million in this project, so we are fully committed, and Tiger is fully committed to seeing this through to completion,” said Anthony, who indicated the course may not be ready for play until 2013. There was a time Anthony had been optimistic for an opening in late 2011 or early 2012.

The Cliffs’ Asheville region director of sales, Mac Triplett, said Monday that 42 home sites have been sold in a development that features 1,000 to 1,200 lots. Sales officially opened in November 2008.

The last lot sale at the development on the high ridge between Fairview and Swannanoa was in August, excluding two transactions in which existing owners in the development traded their lots for other properties there, according to Buncombe County property records.
